Understanding the Challenge
Mary MacKillop College had a story to tell, but their current branding wasn’t telling it effectively. The messaging focused heavily on the college’s past achievements and religious heritage, which, while important, didn’t paint a complete picture. The school had evolved over the years, now offering cutting-edge STEM subjects, modern arts programs, and community-based learning initiatives. However, these exciting developments were not being communicated to prospective students, staff, or the wider community.
The college recognised that their visual identity and language needed a refresh to better represent who they are today. They wanted a unique position in the market that honored their history but also showcased their progressive approach to education.
This was the challenge we were tasked with: modernising Mary MacKillop College’s brand while preserving its core values.
Crafting a Solution
SOAK understood that a successful rebrand would require a deep understanding of the college’s identity and aspirations. Our team spent a considerable amount of time collaborating with college staff, facilitating discussions and workshops to gain insights into what made Mary MacKillop College truly special.
Through this process, SOAK identified three key audiences: students, staff, and the community (both internal and external). Each audience required tailored messaging that spoke directly to their needs and interests. Our brand strategists worked closely with the college to develop a new positioning statement and brand messaging that would resonate with these groups.
Visually, the college needed a refresh that balanced tradition with modernity. An updated logo and typography, giving them a cleaner, more contemporary feel while retaining the school’s signature colors. We also created a series of banners designed to showcase remarkable women in various academic subjects, reinforcing the college’s commitment to excellence across all areas of learning.
The launch of Mary MacKillop College’s new tagline, “Truly Remarkable Women“, marked the beginning of a new era for the school. This powerful statement encapsulated the essence of the college and its mission to empower young women to achieve greatness. SOAK developed a comprehensive suite of brand and marketing materials that brought the new brand to life, from a revamped website to updated brochures and prospectuses. Every touchpoint was designed to engage and inspire the college’s key audiences.
The impact of the rebrand was felt throughout the college community. Students, staff, and parents alike embraced the new identity, recognizing it as an authentic representation of the school’s values and aspirations. The college’s newfound confidence was palpable, attracting attention from prospective families and solidifying its position as a leader in girls’ education.
